Ronny Chieng

comedian and actor. Chieng is currently a Senior Correspondent for The Daily
Show, Comedy Central. He is the creator and lead actor on the sitcom Ronny
Chieng International Student. It debuted on ABC Australia as well as Comedy
Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to an Malaysian
Chinese family. Chieng was educated in Singapore and the United States. He
lived in Manchester, New Hampshire, between 1989 and 1994. Chieng performed
with Trevor Noah at a Melbourne comedy festival in 2013. Chieng was asked to
audition for The Daily Show's reporter role two years later. In July 2016
Chieng was named one of the 10 Comics to Check out by Variety In October,
Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to share his take on Jesse Watters Fox News
segment deemed by many as racist. Chieng broadcasts a tirade-filled critique of
the segment on the network that is conservative. Chieng also re-visited the
city's Chinatown and Chinatown, where Watters have mocked the residents and
conducted interviews more respectfully with residents in Mandarin as well as
Cantonese. The viral video was featured in Slate and the Washington Post. In
his young years, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. While he's been living in
Australia for more than 10 years, he does not have a permanent residence or
citizenship status in Australia. In the year 2018, Chieng made a joke about
being negative during the Daily Show However, he later stated in an interview
that Chieng was "100 percent unafraid of dogs".
