Abigale Lee
Miller(born on 21st September, 1965) is an American choreographer, dance
instructor and reality TV personality. She was the creator of the Abby Lee
Dance Company, which was featured on the reality TV show Dance Moms for eight
seasons. Miller pleaded guilty on June 27th, 2016, to the charge of felony
bankruptcy fraud. Miller was sentenced for one and one-half years in federal
prison. She was released on March 27, 2018. In April of 2018 she was diagnosed
with lymphoma, an aggressive form of cancer that rendered her ineligible to
walk. In order to move about, she now uses a wheelchair. Miller grew up around
dance in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, which is a Pittsburgh suburb. She was
studying under the direction of her mother at the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio.
Miller was 14 years old when she was given choreography and the role of coach
on one of her mother’s team's competition dance teams. Miller eventually
assumed control of the studioand changed its name to Reign Dance Productions.
Miller was certified by Dance Masters of America in 1986 and was made an
associate part of Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter 10 in February 2012.
However Miller's membership was terminated by the DMA in February 2012 when the
DMA claimed that Miller's reality-TV series Dance Moms was "a complete
distortion of dance teachers and students and is damaging to the profession of
dance."
